Dr Michael Lau, China Programme Coordinator, Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden.

South China is one of the hotspots for biodiversity. There are over 240 nature reserves covering 23,000 sq. km. However, like many protected areas in developing countries, they face many challenges. Most reserves have villages inside or naerby and conflicts with local communities often happen. Resources available are usually inadequate. External pressures, such as the high demand for wildlife and their products from the urban population poses additional threats to the threatened species. Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden has been working in this region for six years and would like to share their experience with you.
