The German National Focal Point (NFP) of the Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI) started a study to provide analysis and surveys for The Global Assessment of Taxonomic Needs and Capacities (GTNA) in early 2007. We present the results, significance of the study, and summarize our conclusions for taxonomists, scientists, stakeholders, politicians, and decision makers to diminish the "taxonomic impediment."
