Innovative MEA Implementation: Capacity Enhancement for ACP Countries

The European Commission (EC) will be supporting capacity building activities for the implementation of MEAs in ACP Countries under an upcoming four year Programme (2008 to 2011). The objective of the 21,45 million euro Programme is to enhance the capacity of the ACP countries to comply with their obligations under MEAs. The Programme's overall goal is to reduce the adverse effects of, in particular, climate change, loss of biodiversity, drought, land degradation, chemicals and waste and obsolete pesticides. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will be the overall coordinator and facilitator of the Prograrmme. The Programme will be executed by the Commission of the African Union (AUC), the Caribbean Community Secretariat (CARICOM), the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme (SPREP) the Global Mechanism (GM) of the UNCCD, FAO, UNEP Chemicals and the SAICM Secretariat and DTIE / UNEP Risøe Centre.
