<br>The aim of this side event will be to inform governmental delegates at COP 7 of the relevance of the IUCN protected area management categories system to their needs, convey IUCN's message from the Vth World Parks Congress to the CBD re the categories, and to help dispel misconceptions about the system. It will also provide platform for reporting on a major research project on the impact of the category system. <br><br> The workshop will be led by Jerry Harrison of UNEP-WCMC. The programme will consist: of a presentation about the IUCN protected area management categories by former Chair of IUCN's World Commission on Protected Areas, Adrian Phillips; three short country presentations; and an interactive panel debate with a group of experts. An array of supporting publications will be available.
