Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

This side event will explore the relationship between the strengthening position of Asian countries and the survival of its rich biodiversity, including the Tiger. The 21st Century is commonly regarded as the Asia Century. The Asian Development Bank estimates that about $750 billion per year will be invested over the next decade in new infrastructure projects in the Asia-Pacific region. How will the Asian countries protect their biodiversity while they strive to bring economic and social development across the region? The Year of Biodiversity and the Year of the Tiger fall together at a pivotal time when Asia’s development aims to spring forward from its new firmer economic footings. Will the decline of the tiger be representative of a decline of the natural systems across Asia or can the protection and recovery of the Tiger be the icon of Asia’s conservation success? Details will also be provided on the upcoming Tiger Summit to be held in St. Petersburg on November 21-23 2010.
