Waste and Biodiversity

Organizer

Date and Time
25 October 2010 16:30 - 18:0

Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

Waste mangaement based on 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) approach helps towards biodiversity. On the one hand, reduced levels of waste generation, or efficient use of resources, would reduce the burden on natural resources including forests and water; thus, leading to conserve and support biodiversity. On the other hand, proper management of waste would reduce the pollution and cotamination of soil, forests, water bodies and other natural resources resulting. This would again benefit biodiversity efforts. In this perspective, this side event will bring together policy makers, practitioners, private sector and civil society to discuss the integration of of waste management into biodiversity policies and actions at national and local level.
