Date and Time
25 October 2010 16:30 - 18:0

Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

The side event will focus on mechanisms to advance self reliance in health and nutritional security at a local community level. Case studies will be used to demonstrate how available biological resources and specific knowledge within communities can be utilized for this purpose, through a process of local assessment and validation. In addition to highlighting the utility of promoting such practices to achieve desirable health care delivery in areas removed from the mainstream, discussions will also focus on the challenges, especially related to access to biological resources and knowledge, often encountered in the process of promotion of such local health traditions.
