Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)
The event will present the findings of the report published by Sustainlabour in collaboration with Fundación Biodiversidad on the links between ecosystems and biodiversity, economy and employment. Loss of biodiversity is causing the decline of ecosystem services, whose impact is not only social, with lost jobs and income, food insecurity, levels of poverty and impact on health and people's well-being, but also economic with the collapse of activities such as fishing and agriculture. In addition to this, climate change is advancing and is further exacerbating the situation. These interrelated crises require global solutions. This means that biodiversity loss will only stop when the link between employment and biodiversity is recognised and strengthened. Only by encouraging measures that protect diversity and sustainable management of natural resources will the current trend for environmental destruction be reversed and employment generated.
