Launch of Indo-German Partnership Programme on Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Conservation

Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

This will be an official side eventjointly organised by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India (MoEF) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Government of Germany (BMU) to launch a new Indo-German partnership programme on “Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Conservation”. The side event will demonstrate the consciousness and commitment of the two partner governments towards the importance of conserving coastal and marine ecosystems for environmental sustainability and safeguarding the livelihoods of millions of coastal communities. The agenda for the side event will include presentation of the unique coastal and marine biodiversity of India, expectations of Indian and German side from the new partnership programme and the objectives and the thematic priorities of the programme. It will also offer networking opportunity to meet partners and to introduce the new subject area in the established Indo-German Development Cooperation partnership. Target groups for the event: official COP delegates, representatives of the national and state governments in India, regional think tanks, academic institutions, civil society, industry associations and representatives of the press.
