Federal Environment Ministry of Germany

Date and Time
9 October 2012 13:15 - 14:45

Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

(Preliminarily): Rio+20 brought "Sustainable Tourism" as Win-win option to the attention of the internaitonal community. CBD provides for CBD Guidelines ón Biodiversity and Tourismus Development since 2004. COP11 will deal with the theme under decision X/20 (cooperation). The objective of this Side Event is to present best practice examples on successfully implemented projects based on the CBD Guidelines (and its User's Manual) in Germany and elsewhere and try to distill from there relevant aspects for further consideration including communication on multifunctionality of sustainable tourism, promotion of dialogue among key players including business and biodiversity protecting stakeholders, as well as cooperation activities between CBD and business on the one hand and enhanced cooperation and coordination among relevant UN organisation and institutions in this regard, i.a. with UN WTO, on the other.
