Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)
The International University Network on Cultural and Biological Diversity (IUNCBD) will present pilot cases that propose communication, education, public awareness and capacity building objectives integrated in a unique, dynamic, long-lasting strategy and action plan that can really feed the 'life cycle of the Convention'. This strategy wants to tackle the challenges of the implementation of the CBD policy derived from: (1) the lack of methodology and strategy on the implementation phase (2) the lack of involvement and coordination of all the sectors, stakeholders and right holders of society (3) the lack of consideration of the central role played by education, in particular high education, along the entire "implementation value chain" of the Convention, (4) the consequent lack of recognition of the role that academic institutions can directly play for all the sectors of society as capacity building operative institutions and social and technical drivers of communication and public awareness.
