Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
Making effective and efficient use of scarce resources is a must for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This side-event will illustrate approaches developed under the Satoyama Initiative to support actions at the community level for the sustainable use of biodiversity. The Community Development and Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative (COMDEKS) Project is a global project implemented by UNDP and delivered through the GEF Small Grants Programme to develop sound biodiversity management and sustainable livelihood activities with local communities to maintain, rebuild and revitalize landscapes. The Satoyama Development Mechanism (SDM) is another such programme, created as a seed fund to kick-start local activities. This session will highlight the effectiveness of these resource-mobilization schemes and seek potential ways for further improvement by welcoming experts in resource mobilization.
