Ad Hoc Open-Ended Working Group on Protected Areas

Purpose: Explain the WCPA framework on carrying out PA mgt effectiveness assessments, demonstrate progress against the CBD targets on PA assessments to date; and share experiences on efforts to assess and improve the effectiveness of the Parties existing protected areas systems. Format: Intro on WCPA framework and state of the art; Presentations by two CBD Parties on experience in implementing available tools on system-wide assessments of protected areas mgt effectiveness (including terrestrial and marine tools) (Indonesia and Canada?); information on regional and global efforts that shall help monitor global progress on meeting the PoW PA target to achieve mgt effectiveness by 2012.
