The aim of this side event is to open the floor to the participants of the CBD-WGRI meeting and discuss a consultative process to assess the need for and feasibility of an international mechanism of scientific expertise on biodiversity. This consultative process is one of the follow up of the Paris Conference “Biodiversity: science and governance” (24-28 January 2005). The proposal for this consultative process will be presented in plenary session during WGRI on 5 September (morning).
