NATURAL LINKAGES: Genetic Resources, Ethnobotany and Pre-Breeding - the beautiful case of the domestication syndrome

In the beginning of agriculture was the consumer, and the consumer was farmer, and the farmer was breeder. The marvelous histories about the domestication syndrome has been the natural linkage between ecologists, ethnobotanists and plant breeders. This side event intend to review some interesting examples of natural selection, ecological adaptation and artificial selection, where Nature and Traditional Knowledge offer fundamental insights for plant breeders. The intention of this proposed side event is to be a space for designing new approaches for plant breeding under the scope of the CBD principles.
