Side Event

Biodiversity in Sustainability Reporting

Organizer
CREM BV

Date and Time
23 March 2006 13:15 - 15:0

Meeting
Eighth Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 8)

Biodiversity remains one of the most challenging areas for reporting as many companies still have a limited understanding of their relationship to and impact on biodiversity. Many companies have pointed to the need for general background material that helps companies to understand the link between business and biodiversity for purposes of reporting. Such background material will enable companies to better frame their reporting to key stakeholders. In this light, CREM BV (an expert consultancy agency in the field of business and biodiversity) is developing a so-called Biodiversity Resource Document for the Global Reporting Initiatiave (GRI). Reporting is essential since it can support the CBD goal aiming for conservation and sustainble use of biodiversity. This side event will serve to discuss specific issues, dilemmas and challenges that organizations encounter in biodiversity reporting and in this way may encourage organizations to pay attention to reporting on biodiversity in their CSR reports. Participants are invited to come with ideas, policies, reporting methods, etc. to counteract the issues, dilemmas and challenges identified.
