A round table over the history and challenges of the the Amazon Region Protected Areas Program (ARPA). ARPA has begun in 2003 and has achieved its target for the creation of strict protection protected areas and has almost completed the target for sustainable use protected areas. This round table will envolve presentations by the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, which coordinates the program, the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (Funbio), which manages the resources donated to the program, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and WWF, international donnors. It also will involve a discussion of the future of ARPA, based on scenarios and studies carried out by IPAM, the Instituto de Pesquisas Ambientais da Amazônia.
