I am pleased to inform you of the decision of the Government of Japan taken at a meeting of the Cabinet on 16 January 2007, to offer to host in Nagoya, Japan in 2010, the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) as well as the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CBD, serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP-5). The ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-9) to be held in Germany in May 2008 will decide on the dates and venue of COP-10 and COP-MOP-5.
